Local Media Association (LMA) is a nonprofit 501(c) (6) trade association founded in 1971 that connects media (from large media companies to small, often family-owned operations). They help local media companies with conferences, research, and training, to assist with strategy development. The focus is on business transformation, philanthropy-funded journalism, industry collaboration, and sustainability for publishers of color.
The LMA has a program for boosting technology within black-owned local publications and media outlets, known as the Knight x LMA BloomLab. The lab’s focus is on digital revenue and audience growth through tech upgrades, and business transformation consultations.
Local Media Foundation (LMF) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable trust affiliated with LMA. More than 3,000 media properties are involved with the work of LMA and LMF.
