YourObserver.com is the flagship digital news platform of Observer Media Group, serving Sarasota, Siesta Key, Longboat Key and East County, Florida.
Observer Media Group was founded in 1995 when Matt and Lisa Walsh, with Lisa's parents David and Ruth Beliles and a small group of investors, purchased the Longboat Observer from founders Ralph and Claire Hunter, who had started the paper in 1978. The company subsequently launched the Sarasota Observer (2004) and other titles. Emily Walsh, the couple's daughter and a fourth-generation newspaper family member, launched YourObserver.com in 2009 and was named the company's president and publisher of its Sarasota-based titles in 2016, taking on leadership of the broader Observer Media Group in 2021.
YourObserver.com won first place for best architecture and design among weeklies from the Local Media Association in 2010, and first place in Website Development in 2011.
