The Writers Guild of America East, AFL-CIO (WGAE) is a labor union based in New York City, New York, that represents members who write content for motion pictures, television, news, and online media.
Founded in 1954, the guild negotiates and administers contracts protecting the creative and economic rights of members. It also conducts programs, seminars, and events on issues relevant to writers and presents writers' perspectives to various government bodies. Based in New York City, the Writers Guild of America East is affiliated with the AFL/CIO.
