The Wire
New Delhi
CPJ International Press Freedom Award Winner
The Wire, founded in 2015 is a nonprofit news website which is published in Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, and English. Founded by Siddharth Varadarajan, Sidharth Bhatia, and M. K. Venu because of the changing nature of journalism in which political dissent is discouraged.
In 2015, the founders wrote of their commitment to nonprofit news: "We start today on a modest note, constrained not by our vision but by our resources."
In 2022, after one of The Wire's reporters allegedly fabricated some news stories, it fired that reporter.
Since The Wire began, three Ramnath Goenka#Excellence in Journalism awards and one CPJ (Committee to Protect Journalists) International Press Freedom Award1 have been received by The Wire's reporters.
The Wire also publishes other websites: The Wire Science# and LiveWire.#
