Winchester, Kentucky, USA
The Winchester Sun is a semi-weekly newspaper published Tuesdays and Saturdays in Winchester, Kentucky, and is the newspaper of record for Clark County.
The paper was first published November 1, 1878, as The Semi-Weekly Sun. It operated as The Winchester News from 1908 to 1912 before reverting to The Winchester Sun. The Tatman family purchased the Sun at auction for $44,000 in 1936, and James Tatman served as publisher for more than 50 years. Betty Berryman, publisher from 1988 to 2006, became the first female president of the Kentucky Press Association and was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame in 1996. Boone Newspapers, Inc. took ownership at the start of 2016. The paper switched from daily to semi-weekly publication in 2020, citing economic hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic. As of November 2025, the Sun is owned by Carpenter Media Group and led by editor Matt Cizek.
