Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, USA
West Hawaii Today is a daily broadsheet newspaper based in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, circulated on the west side of the Big Island from North Kohala to Ka'u. It is owned and published by Oahu Publications Inc., a subsidiary of Black Press.
The paper originated as the Kona Tribune-Herald, a weekly Kona edition launched by the Hilo Tribune-Herald in 1962, and was expanded into the daily West Hawaii Today in 1968. It was owned by Donrey Media Group until founder Donald W. Reynolds died in 1993; the company was renamed Stephens Media in 2002. The paper's original office was in Kainaliu before moving to the North Kona Shopping Center in 1977 and then to a purpose-built facility on Kuakini Highway in 1993. In 2014, Stephens Media sold West Hawaii Today, along with the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, to Oahu Publications Inc., a Black Press Media subsidiary. Black Press was acquired by Carpenter Media Group in 2024.
