The School of Journalism and Communication (SJC), part of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, offers Journalism and Public Relations degrees at bachelor's, master's, and doctorate levels.
SJC was, per its own account, the first institution in Vietnam to offer a research-based Master's program in Journalism (since 1997) and an Applied Master's program in Journalism (since 2017). It has collaborated with Stirling University (UK) since 2014 on a Master of Science in Media Management. The school describes itself as the only faculty-level unit in Vietnam that trains both Journalism and Public Relations.
The Ministry of Education and Training approved a Faculty of Journalism at Hanoi General University in 1990; the first journalism course, with 160 students, began on October 12, 1991. In 1997, postgraduate journalism training was assigned to USSH. The unit was renamed the Faculty of Journalism and Communication in 2008, began PhD training in 2007, and added a Public Relations bachelor's program in 2012. On July 18, 2018, the School of Journalism and Communication was formally established by combining the Faculty of Journalism and Communication with the Center for Media Practice.
