Biography

Trish Vernon (1952-2023) co-founded the Cape Gazette, a twice-weekly community newspaper covering Delaware's Cape Region, with publisher Dennis Forney in 1993, and served as its editor and vice president until both retired at the end of 2021. She began her journalism career in 1975 as a reporter at The Whale, a weekly newspaper based in Lewes, where she worked alongside Forney before the two left to launch their own paper. Under Vernon's editorial leadership, the Cape Gazette grew to sell more than 23,000 copies weekly and won numerous state press association writing awards. She died on October 30, 2023, at age 71.
