The University of Nevada, Reno is a public land-grant research university in Reno, Nevada.
Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno is housed in the Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism, established as a freestanding school on September 14, 1984, after growing out of a journalism department dating to 1913. Named for journalist and businessman Donald W. Reynolds, the school is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and offers bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism, advertising, public relations, and visual communication, and oversees public radio station KUNR.
The University of Nevada was founded on October 12, 1874, in Elko, Nevada, as the state's land-grant institution under the Morrill Act of 1862. The university relocated to Reno in 1885, and its first Reno building, Morrill Hall, opened in 1886. It was renamed the University of Nevada, Reno in 1969, following the separation of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
