The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a public land-grant research university in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Journalism at Nebraska is housed in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CoJMC), founded in 1894 when the university held its first journalism class; a School of Journalism was formally established in 1923 and elevated to a college in 1985. The college is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and is a member of the Carnegie-Knight Initiative on the Future of Journalism, offering majors in advertising and public relations, broadcasting, journalism, and sports media and communication.
The University of Nebraska was chartered by the Nebraska Legislature on February 15, 1869, two years after Nebraska was admitted to the Union, as a land-grant institution under the Morrill Act of 1862.
