The University of Gondar is located in Gondar, in the Amhara Region of northwestern Ethiopia. It is the oldest medical school in Ethiopia, established as the Public Health College in 1954 following an agreement between the Ethiopian government and the United States. The institution operated for decades as a health sciences college under various names and administrative arrangements before expanding into a comprehensive university. The college was renamed the Gondar College of Medical Sciences until 2003, when it grew into a University College, and was formally renamed the University of Gondar in 2004. The Institutional Repository is the university's platform for collecting, preserving, and disseminating its scholarly output.
The repository holds theses, dissertations, research articles, and other academic publications produced by UoG's colleges and institutes, spanning medicine and health sciences, natural and computational sciences, social sciences and humanities, business and economics, veterinary medicine, agriculture, engineering, and law. The university's strong research focus — particularly in public health, maternal health, and community medicine — is reflected in the repository's holdings.
The repository is accessible online through the UoG Library's website. UoG is also represented in the National Academic Digital Repository of Ethiopia (NADRE), which aggregates research output from Ethiopian higher-education institutions.
