History and Founding

Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) was officially established on November 10, 1954, when President Sukarno inaugurated the university under Government Regulation No. 57 of 1954, coinciding with the ninth national Heroes' Day. Its roots extend to 1913, when the Dutch colonial government established the Nederlandsch Indische Artsen School (NIAS), a medical education center in Surabaya. The UNAIR Institutional Repository was formally established under Rector's Decree No. 46 of 2016 and is powered by EPrints 3 software, developed by the University of Southampton. The repository went live in April 2016 and is managed by the Perpustakaan Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR Library).

Collections and Holdings

The UNAIR Repository serves as a digital collection of academic papers and local content produced by the university's academic community. Holdings include undergraduate theses (skripsi), master's theses (tesis), doctoral dissertations (disertasi), journal articles, book chapters, research papers, conference proceedings, community service reports, and internship reports. Collections from before 2007 are available in open access; materials from 2008 onward require faculty approval for full-text access. The repository supports the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). UNAIR is consistently ranked among Indonesia's top five universities and maintains international partnerships with institutions including the University of Bonn and Seoul National University.

The repository is accessible online at repository.unair.ac.id. Open access is available for older collections. Newer materials may require authentication or faculty approval.
