The Università degli Studi di Milano Research Repository, also known as AIR (Archivio Istituzionale della Ricerca) or IRIS, is the institutional research repository of the Università degli Studi di Milano (UniMi), one of Italy's largest and most prestigious public research universities. The repository provides open access to the scholarly output of the university's researchers and facilitates compliance with national and European open-access mandates.
The Università degli Studi di Milano was founded in 1924. The AIR/IRIS repository was developed to centralize and disseminate the university's research output digitally. The system operates under the IRIS (Institutional Research Information System) infrastructure, which is widely adopted across Italian universities for research information management and repository services.
The repository holds journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, theses and dissertations, research reports, and datasets produced by UniMi faculty and researchers. Coverage spans all academic disciplines taught at the university, including humanities, sciences, medicine, law, and social sciences. Many items are available as full-text open-access publications, while others provide bibliographic metadata only.
AIR/IRIS is freely accessible online at air.unimi.it. Search and browsing are available without registration. The platform supports OAI-PMH for interoperability with international repository networks and aggregators. Publications registered in IRIS by researchers are made visible in AIR after validation, enhancing their global discoverability through search engines including Google Scholar.
