Use of DataThe Universidad del Valle was established by Ordinance No. 12 of June 11, 1945, by the Departmental Assembly of Valle del Cauca as the Universidad Industrial del Valle del Cauca, under the leadership of Tulio Ramírez Rojas and Severo Reyes Gamboa. The university was renamed Universidad del Valle in 1954 and grew into the largest institution of higher education in southwestern Colombia. The Sección de Gestión Documental oversees both the Archivo Central and the Archivo Histórico. The Archivo Central is located in Building B16 of the main Meléndez campus in Cali.
The Archivo Central e Histórico holds the full documentary cycle of university records in accordance with Colombia's archival regulatory framework, including the Tablas de Retención Documental (TRD). Services include documentary transfer from office archives to the central archive, document inventories, digitization, and records management. The archive maintains institutional memory materials covering the university's development from its establishment in 1945 through the present, with records spanning academic, administrative, financial, and research functions across its multiple faculties and institutes. Document inventories are maintained and updated in compliance with national archival standards.
The Archivo Central e Histórico is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is located in Building B16 of the Universidad del Valle Sede Meléndez, Cali. Services include documentary consultation, reprographic services, document transfer, and training in records management. Access is available to university staff, students, and external researchers with a documented research need.
