The TUM Archive (TUM Archiv, also known as the Historisches Archiv der TUM) is the institutional archive of the Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München), one of Germany's leading research universities. TUM itself was founded in 1868 by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as the Polytechnische Schule München. The archive's role is to document the university's history since its founding, and it serves as the custodian of records from over 150 years of TUM's scientific, cultural, political, and social history.
The TUM Archive collects, preserves, and provides access to analogue and digital records of lasting value relating to the history of TUM. Its holdings include administrative records, correspondence, photographs, architectural drawings, and other documentary materials spanning the university's history from 1868 to the present. The archive has also conducted and published research into TUM's institutional history, including a major project examining TUM's role during the National Socialist period, presented in a 2018 exhibition marking the university's 150th anniversary.
The TUM Archive is open to researchers from around the world by appointment. Archival holdings can be explored online through the TUM archive website, and the archive also supports research and teaching activities within the university.
