Chandigarh, India
The Tribune is an English-language daily newspaper published from Chandigarh, India, and printed at Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Bathinda and Gurugram. It is among the leading English dailies for Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, and is run by a trust of five trustees, alongside sister publications Punjabi Tribune and Dainik Tribune.
The Tribune was founded February 2, 1881, in Lahore, then part of Punjab and now in Pakistan, by philanthropist Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia at the urging of Surendranath Banerjea, with a founding mission of promoting English-language education in Punjab. Following the 1947 partition of India, the paper lost its Lahore base and most of its original readership, publishing its first post-partition issue from Shimla on September 25, 1947, before later relocating to Ambala and then to the newly built city of Chandigarh. The Tribune launched its online edition in 1998. Jyoti Malhotra was appointed the first woman Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune Group in May 2024, succeeding Rajesh Ramachandran, who had held the post since 2018.
