The Herald News is a daily broadsheet newspaper headquartered in Woodland Park, New Jersey, focused on Passaic County. It is published as a Passaic County edition of The Record and is owned by USA Today Co. (formerly Gannett) through North Jersey Media Group.
Descends from several Passaic County papers; the Paterson Evening News began publishing in 1890, eventually merging with the Paterson Morning Call to form the Paterson News and Call, which merged with the Evening News in 1980 to form The News. In 1985, MediaNews Group bought The News from Allbritton Communications, and the Drukker family sold control of its Passaic Herald-News (itself descended from an 1872 paper once owned by Republican congressman Dow Drukker) to a MediaNews affiliate. The two merged in September 1987 as The North Jersey Herald & News. The Borg family, owners of The Record, bought it in 1997, folding it into their North Jersey Media Group; the paper later dropped the ampersand and then "North Jersey" from its name. Gannett acquired North Jersey Media Group in July 2016.
