The Hartford Courant is Connecticut's largest daily and the oldest continuously published newspaper in the United States. It has won seven Pulitzer Prizes.
The Courant delivers news and information through various channels, including print, online, and social platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
In 1979, The Times Mirror Company acquired the Hartford Courant. In 2000, the Tribune Company took ownership. In 2014, the Tribune print properties, including the Courant, were reorganized under a new parent company, Tribune Publishing. In May 2021, Alden Global Capital, through its Digital First Media division, acquired Tribune Publishing. As a component the Tribune’s Publishing portfolio, the Courant is a sister publication to the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News, the Baltimore Sun, and the Orlando Sentinel, among others.
The Courant requires a subscription after three free views. It offers various subscriber packages, including a low-cost digital-only starter plan. Full subscription service is $6.99 per week, which includes daily print delivery and unlimited digital access. The website collects user data, claiming to "improve user experience and tailor content." It hosts banner ads, coupon deals and sponsored content from Taboola, Wanderoam, StreetInsider and others.
