The Druk Journal is a Bhutanese public affairs and policy journal that publishes thematic editions on issues relevant to Bhutan's development as a democracy and modern nation. Its website serves as an online archive of all published editions, providing free public access to articles, essays, and discussions spanning Bhutanese politics, society, economics, culture, and governance.
The Druk Journal was launched in Bhutan and is now in its eleventh year of publication (as of 2024–2025). Each edition focuses on a single theme, such as national identity, elections, urban development, climate change, or mindful governance. The journal was dedicated at its launch to the fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck. It is described as Bhutan's only publication in its category—promoting independent, thought-provoking, and wide-ranging discourse on national issues. A monitoring and evaluation report covering 2015 to July 2021 documented the journal's impact as a public space for analytical thinking about Bhutanese national policies.
The archive contains essays, policy analyses, book reviews, and discussion transcripts organized by edition theme. Topics addressed across the archive include Bhutanese democracy, GNH (Gross National Happiness) policy, urbanization, climate change, political history, gender, health, education, media, and cultural identity. Contributors include Bhutanese scholars, policymakers, diplomats, and international experts. Print editions are available at the Junction bookstore in Thimphu, the Thimphu Public Library, and college libraries across Bhutan.
The Druk Journal archive is a primary resource for researchers studying Bhutanese media, public discourse, democratic development, and policy analysis. Its articles discuss Bhutanese journalism, media regulation, and the role of media in national development, making it particularly relevant to those studying small-nation media systems.
