Overview

The Bethel Citizen is a weekly newspaper covering Bethel, Greenwood, Woodstock, Andover, Hanover, Newry, Upton and Albany Township, Maine. It is part of the Maine Trust for Local News' "Western Maine Weeklies."

History

Was one of the Costello family's Sun Media Group publications; Sun Media Group formed in 2007 as an umbrella for the family's individual newspaper holdings. Sun Media Group was sold to Reade Brower, owner of MaineToday Media, on Aug. 1, 2017. In July 2023, Brower sold Sun Media Group, MaineToday Media and Alliance Media to the nonprofit National Trust for Local News, which now operates the paper as part of the Maine Trust for Local News.
