Dhaka, Bangladesh
The Bangladesh Gazette is the official gazette of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, published from Dhaka by the Bangladesh Government Press under the Department of Printing and Publications. It serves as the authoritative medium for publishing laws, ordinances, rules, appointments and administrative notifications, appearing in a regular weekly edition, published every Thursday, and an occasional Extraordinary edition for urgent announcements. Historically, its extraordinary issues have also carried weekly disease and mortality statistics along with monthly and quarterly weather and crop reports.
The gazette's lineage traces to the Calcutta Gazette, or Oriental Advertiser, launched in March 1784 to serve colonial administrative purposes, with district-level references appearing as early as 1787. Following the 1947 partition of British India, the Government of East Bengal published The Dacca Gazette starting August 15, 1947, printed by the newly formed East Bengal Government Press, which began operating in 1948 and was renamed Bangladesh Government Press after Bangladesh's 1971 independence. Publications under the name 'The Bangladesh Gazette' began in 1972, and the gazette was formally established in its present form on December 7, 1973.
