Tel Aviv, Israel
Tel Aviv University does not have a standalone journalism school. Journalism-related study occurs within the DAN Department of Communication, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Undergraduates study communication only as a double major combined with another field; the department also offers a master's program.
The department's M.A. program focuses on Social Responsibility in Communication, which the department describes as the only program in Israel with this specific emphasis. Students can tailor coursework around digital communication, journalism, health communication, and language and culture. The department maintains internship ties to Israel's media industry.
The department was established in 1995. In 2017, Toronto-based philanthropists Aubrey and Marla Dan dedicated the department in their name with a gift intended to fund a first-of-its-kind internet research laboratory, TV and radio studios, and expanded graduate scholarships; the department has stated a long-term goal of offering a full, single-major degree program.
Elad Segev: Department Head, appointed fall 2020.
