The Archives Nationales du Tchad (National Archives of Chad) is the national archival institution of the Republic of Chad, located in N'Djamena. It serves as the primary repository for official historical documents, photographs, maps, and records pertaining to Chad's history from the colonial era to the present.
The national archives deposit was established in Fort-Lamy (present-day N'Djamena) in 1962, shortly after Chad's independence from France in 1960. Archives from the former French Equatorial Africa administration had been centralized in Brazzaville under the Governor-General; following independence, records held by individual ministries and prefectures were gathered and consolidated by the new national archives institution. The initiative to recover, collect, and safeguard pre-1960 administrative records was entrusted to the archives depot from its founding. The records collection includes materials from the former cabinets of governors and high commissioners of French colonial Chad.
The archives hold documents, photographs, and maps tracing the history of Chad in detail, covering the colonial period, the independence era, and subsequent governmental activity. Materials are primarily in French. The institution does not currently maintain a public web presence.
The archives can be visited in person. Researchers have historically contacted the archives by telephone. No web-based access or catalog is publicly available.
