The University of Sydney does not have a standalone journalism school. Journalism is taught within the Bachelor of Media and Communications and as a major in Media Studies within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences' Department of Media and Communications (part of the School of Art, Communication and English), with Honours available.
Core units cover media production, the structure of media and communications industries, and legal and ethical issues, with professional skills training in written news and feature journalism, audio and video production, and social media. A required fourth-year industry internship and a major media project or research essay round out the degree. Research supervision areas include literary and slow journalism, media policy and regulation, and digital cultures.
