The Swedish National Data Service (SND) is a national research infrastructure for the preservation, accessibility, and reuse of research data from multiple scientific disciplines. Hosted by the University of Gothenburg, it is Sweden's leading service provider for academic research data management and is Sweden's national node in the Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA-ERIC).
The SND was established as a national unit at the University of Gothenburg, initially funded by Vetenskapsrådet (the Swedish Research Council). From 2018, the SND was reorganised as a consortium of nine Swedish universities: the University of Gothenburg (host), Chalmers University of Technology, Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Lund University, Stockholm University, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå University, and Uppsala University. SND operations are funded by the Swedish Research Council and the consortium universities.
SND provides a national research data catalogue containing datasets from a wide range of disciplines including sociology, economics, statistics, archaeology, political science, medicine, health, environmental science, and more. The catalogue integrates the former Environment and Climate Data Sweden (ECDS) sub-division. Data is accessible through SND's DORIS (Data Organisation and Information System) platform and the national portal researchdata.se.
SND collaborates with almost 40 higher education institutions and research institutes across Sweden to provide coordinated research data management services, including data deposit, description, long-term preservation, and sharing. It is also part of Swe-CLARIN (the Swedish Service Provider for CLARIN ERIC), and a regular member of the ICSU World Data System (WDS).
