Use of DataThe Student Press Law Center (SPLC) is a legal help site based in Washington, DC. Founded in 1974, SPLC is an independent, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization that works to promote, support, and defend the First Amendment and press freedom rights of high school and college journalists and their advisers. With a 15-member Board of Directors consisting of professional educators, journalists, lawyers, students, and others, SPLC has had a strong impact in protecting and promoting student press freedom. They have a professional staff who run a legal hotline, design and implement programs, develop educational materials, and conduct training throughout the United States. SPLC's mission is to ensure the rights of student journalists are upheld and respected.
