The Stockholm University Archives (Swedish: Stockholms universitets arkiv) is the central archive of Stockholm University (Stockholms universitet), responsible for preserving, managing, and providing access to the university's official records and other archival materials. It forms part of the university's central administration and is located on the main campus at Frescati in northern Stockholm.
Stockholm University was founded as Stockholm University College (Stockholms högskola) in 1878, initially offering public lectures in natural sciences. It achieved degree-granting status in 1904 and was elevated to full university status in 1960, becoming Sweden's fourth state university. The university archives developed alongside the institution to manage its growing administrative records, preserving materials related to the university's educational, research, and administrative history.
The Stockholm University Archives holds official university records including academic transcripts and diplomas, curricula, examination results, dissertations, and administrative correspondence. Researchers and former students may request copies of official records. The archive maintains both physical and electronic holdings, operating an e-archive system for more recent university records.
The archive provides access to public records through request procedures in accordance with Swedish law. Former students and members of the public may request records such as diplomas of higher education, curricula, and dissertations. Phone hours for archive inquiries are 09:30–10:30 on weekdays (excluding bank holidays). Requests for public records can be submitted to the university's central archive.
