Use of DataStephen Engelberg is an investigative journalist and editor. He is the founding managing editor of ProPublica (2008–2012), and, on January 1, 2013, became editor-in-chief. He came to ProPublica from the Oregonian in Portland where, since 2002, he had been a managing editor. Before joining the Oregonian, Mr. Engelberg worked 18 years for the The New York Times. He is a member of the Pulitzer prize board. Mr. Engelberg’s work has focused largely on the editing of investigative projects. In 2000, he started the The Times’’ investigative unit. He is the co-author of Germs: Biological Weapons and America’s Secret War.
