The Statistical Center of Iran (SCI; Persian: مرکز آمار ایران) is Iran's official national statistical authority, responsible for the collection, processing, and publication of the country's official statistics. Administered and funded by the Government of Iran, the SCI plays a pivotal role in shaping economic, social, and developmental policies through the provision of transparent and accurate data.
The SCI was established in 1965 by legislation from the National Consultative Assembly (Majlis). It succeeded earlier ad hoc statistical activities and was created to provide a centralized, authoritative source of national statistics for Iran's growing policy and planning needs. The center is headquartered at No. 1, Rahi Moayeri Street, Dr. Fatemi Avenue, Tehran.
The SCI conducts national censuses (including population and housing censuses), household surveys, agricultural censuses, and a broad range of economic and social surveys. Key publications include Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) data, statistical yearbooks, and thematic survey reports. The center's online portal (amar.org.ir) provides public access to datasets, publications, and statistical releases covering population, employment, prices, industry, agriculture, and more.
The SCI coordinates Iran's participation in international statistical programs, liaising with organizations such as the United Nations Statistics Division and the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC). Its census data and survey microdata are referenced by global health and development databases.
The SCI's official website offers free access to statistical publications, data tables, and press releases. Users may also submit statistical inquiries through the center's information services.
