Traces to the Winter Garden Ricochet, first published Sept. 13, 1905, by A.B. Newton, who merged it with The Apopka Citizen the following year. The paper changed names and ownership repeatedly; George Bailey bought it in 1970 and renamed it the West Orange Times. Observer Media Group acquired the West Orange Times in February 2014 and, in 2015, split its coverage area into two papers: the West Orange Times & Observer (Winter Garden, Ocoee, Oakland) and the Windermere Observer, later renamed the Southwest Orange Observer, covering Windermere, Dr. Phillips and Horizon West.
As of 2019, combined circulation with the West Orange Times & Observer was 31,489 copies weekly.
