Use of DataRandall Duncan Smith, born in 1942, is an American hedge fund manager and the founder and chief of investments at Alden Global Capital. He earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 1965 and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1967. Smith was a partner at Bear Stearns from 1975 to 1996, where he established the convertible arbitrage department and later specialized in distressed asset investments.
In 2007 Mr. Smith founded Alden Global Capital, and is its chief of investments. Per Wikipedia: Alden’s AUM is $1.04 billion USD (not verified).
As of May 2021, when it purchased Tribune Publishing, Alden Global became the second-largest newspaper publisher, after Gannett, in the United States.
