David Deniston Smith is an American businessman serving as the executive chairman of Sinclair Broadcast Group since January 2017. He was previously the president and CEO of the company from September 1990 to January 2017.
Sinclair Broadcast TTM revenue of $3.37 billion placing it just outside the top 10 media companies in the U.S. Mr. Smith owns a little over 5% of the company’s stock.
In January 2024, Mr. Smith reached a private agreement to buy The Baltimore Sun from the venture capital group Alden Global Capital. This is a personal investment not one tied to Sinclair. He is also the owner of other Baltimore-area news publications like Capital Gazette papers in Annapolis, Carroll County Times, The Howard County Times, Towson Times, and several other Baltimore-area weeklies and magazines.
