Use of DataSleeping Giants is a social media activism movement launched in 2016 by Matt Rivitz and Nandini Jammi. The group conducts social media pressure campaigns to induce advertisers to drop venues that publish hate-speech, misinformation, or disinformation.
In 2017 a campaign against Breitbart News was particularly successful, persuading major advertisers to pull ads from the site. The fallout had a significant effect on Breitbart's bottom line.
In July, 2020, co-founder Nandini Jammi left Sleeping Giants, explaining in a post on Medium that Matt Rivitz consistently failed to give her proper credit for their success. Rivitz subsequently published an apology to Jammi in The Daily Beast and other outlets.
