Scott Titsworth served as dean of Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication, which includes the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, from 2010 until stepping down in 2026 to return to teaching. He joined Ohio University's faculty in 2001 after teaching at Truman State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead, and held prior roles including director of graduate studies before becoming dean. Titsworth began his media career as a news reporter at KLKC radio in his hometown of Parsons, Kansas, covering city council, school board and county commission meetings. He holds a bachelor's degree in speech communication and rhetoric from Emporia State University, a master's in communication and media studies from Missouri State University, and a Ph.D. in instructional communication from the University of Nebraska. A leading scholar of classroom communication effectiveness, he has published more than 50 books, chapters and articles on the topic.
