Use of DataScholarly Publications (formerly known as the Leiden Repository) is the institutional open-access repository of Leiden University, one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands, founded in 1575. Managed by Leiden University Libraries (UBL), the repository provides sustainable open access to the research output of Leiden's academics and affiliated institutes.
Scholarly Publications was established in 2006, initially providing open access to PhD theses, scholarly journals, book series, and conference proceedings. The system operates through LUCRIS Publication Management (PM), the university's current research information system, through which all Leiden researchers are obliged to register their scholarly publications and attach PDFs for open access dissemination. The repository was rebranded from Leiden Repository to Scholarly Publications as use expanded beyond theses to encompass all research output types.
The repository holds publications across all academic disciplines represented at Leiden, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, law, and medicine. Collections include journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, reports, PhD dissertations, and publications by Leiden University Press. The repository supports multiple open access licenses including Creative Commons variants and the Dutch Taverne Amendment (Article 25fa of the Dutch Copyright Act), enabling open access to eligible publications regardless of publisher restrictions.
Scholarly Publications is freely accessible online at scholarlypublications.universiteitleiden.nl. Content is indexed by Google, Google Scholar, and the international OAIster open access aggregator. OAI-PMH harvesting is supported at https://scholarlypublications.universiteitleiden.nl/oai2. Researchers and PhD candidates at Leiden use LUCRIS PM to deposit publications; there is a separate procedure for doctoral dissertations.
