Institutional Context

Samtse College of Education is Bhutan's oldest teacher education institution, founded on 29 May 1968 as the Teacher Training Institute by King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third king of Bhutan. The institution began with 41 students and a small faculty. It was renamed the National Institute of Education in 1983 (some sources say 1984) and again renamed Samtse College of Education in 2003 when it became a constituent college of the newly established Royal University of Bhutan.
