S-Space Seoul National University Open Repository and Archive (SNU)

Overview

S-Space is the open access institutional repository and archive of Seoul National University (SNU), one of South Korea's leading research universities, located in Gwanak-gu, Seoul. Launched in August 2009 and built on the DSpace platform, S-Space preserves and disseminates the scholarly output of SNU's faculty, students, and staff to researchers worldwide.

History and Development

S-Space was established in 2009 as part of a global trend toward open access institutional repositories in higher education. It is operated by Seoul National University Library (서울대학교 중앙도서관) and is registered with the Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR) and the Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR). The repository allows SNU researchers to share their work with the global scholarly community.

Collections and Holdings

S-Space houses over 172,000 records across the full range of SNU's academic departments and research institutes. Collections are organized by community and include materials from colleges of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, education, fine arts, business administration, law, and interdisciplinary programs. Content types include journal articles, conference papers, theses and dissertations, reports, and working papers. Notable collections include the Seoul Journal of Economics, publications of the Institute of International Affairs, and materials from the Department of Communication (언론정보학과) and other social science units. Theses and dissertations from SNU's graduate programs are a significant component of the archive.

Access and Usage

S-Space is freely accessible to anyone online at s-space.snu.ac.kr. It supports OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), enabling integration with global scholarly databases. Users can search and browse by title, author, subject, type, date, publisher, or featured researcher. Content is protected by copyright unless otherwise indicated.
