Rumford Falls Times

Overview

Rumford Falls Times is a weekly newspaper covering Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield, Peru, Roxbury, Byron, Andover and Canton, Maine. It is part of the Maine Trust for Local News' "Western Maine Weeklies."

History

Traces to 1883, when Boston publisher Edgar N. Carver started a weekly in nearby Canton called the Canton Telephone. The paper briefly published as a daily in the 1950s until a 1954 fire destroyed its office, printing plant and radio station WRUM, after which it returned to weekly publication. Owner Howard James sold the Rumford Falls Times and the Advertiser Democrat to the Costello family's Sun Media Group in June 2005. It later became part of Masthead Maine and, since 2023, the nonprofit Maine Trust for Local News.
