Biography

Robin Fields is a senior editor at ProPublica, where she covers health, including the drug industry, insurance denials, and reproductive care. She was among the first reporters to join ProPublica in 2008, became a senior editor in 2010, and served as managing editor from 2013 to 2022 before returning to reporting. Fields holds a bachelor's degree in European history from the University of Pennsylvania (1991) and a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism (1993). She began her career as a staff writer and later senior writer at the Sun Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, and spent nine years as a reporter at the Los Angeles Times before joining ProPublica. As an editor, she has overseen investigative projects on political dark money, injection wells, the military's handling of traumatic brain injuries, police violence in post-Katrina New Orleans, and the nation's system of death investigations. Her own reporting on the U.S. dialysis industry prompted a congressional call for investigation and a grand jury inquiry into a major dialysis provider.
