Reuters Fact Check is the dedicated fact-checking unit of the Reuters news agency, monitoring social media and public claims and publishing verifications on politics, health, science and other categories of widespread interest. It is a signatory to the Poynter International Fact-Checking Network's Code of Principles and participates in Meta's third-party fact-checking program.
Reuters launched the Reuters Fact Check business unit and blog in February 2020 as one of Facebook's third-party fact-checking partners, building on the news agency's existing user-generated content verification expertise. The initial team consisted of four fact-checkers split between Washington, D.C. and Mexico City, working separately from but drawing on the practices of Reuters' 12-person media verification team, led by Global Head of UGC Newsgathering Hazel Baker. The unit reviews user-generated video and photos as well as viral claims and headlines in English and Spanish.
