The Repositorio CINVESTAV is the institutional open-access repository of the Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (CINVESTAV-IPN), Mexico's leading advanced scientific research institution. The repository provides public access to graduate theses and academic publications produced by CINVESTAV's researchers and graduate students across its departments and regional campuses.

History and Background

CINVESTAV was formally established on 17 April 1961 by presidential decree of Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos, originally as a postgraduate research arm of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). Its mandate was modified in 1982 under President José López Portillo to make it a decentralized organ of public interest with its own legal personality. In 2025, CINVESTAV employed approximately 632 full-time researchers and supported around 2,500 graduate students across its programs. The repository serves as the digital archive of CINVESTAV's academic output.

The repository is organized by academic department and regional campus, covering all major disciplinary areas at CINVESTAV including physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, biotechnology, chemistry, biology, education, and social sciences, among others.
