Use of DataThe PSAS IR (Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad Institutional Repository) is the official institutional repository of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), hosted by the Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS) in Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia. It serves as a central digital archive for the scientific and scholarly output of the UPM community.
Universiti Putra Malaysia was originally established in 1971 as Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (Agricultural University of Malaysia), formed from the merger of the College of Agriculture, Malaya and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Malaya. In 1997, the university was renamed Universiti Putra Malaysia. The library, previously named the Universiti Pertanian Malaysia Library, was renamed Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad (PSAS) on 23 May 2002, in honor of the late Sultan Abdul Samad, great-great-grandfather of the current Sultan of Selangor. The institutional repository was launched in 2009 and operates on the EPrints open-source software platform.
The PSAS IR contains master's and doctoral theses, journal articles, conference papers, newspaper cuttings, internal UPM news publications, and inaugural lecture texts. Collections span all disciplines taught at UPM including science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health sciences, arts, humanities, and social sciences. The Sultan Abdul Samad Library holds a physical collection of approximately 670,000 volumes of books and bound journals, microforms, maps, sound recordings, and videotapes.
The PSAS IR is freely accessible online; however, full-text access to theses is restricted in accordance with university policy—users can access content pages, abstracts, chapter 1, and bibliographies, but not full thesis texts. Journal articles and other publications are available under the terms specified by authors and publishers. The repository is OAI-PMH compliant and is listed in OpenDOAR.
