The Prison Policy Initiative (PPI) is a non-profit research organization that produces analyses of the US carceral system. It's goal is to provide the prison reform movement data, reports, and graphics that cover gaps left in federal and state reporting systems, and to "publicize how mass incarceration punishes our entire society."
PPI publishes a yearly "Whole Pie" report that complies data on the people imprisoned across the "thousands of federal, state, local, and tribal" facilities that makes up the US criminal legal system. The organization also uses its website and social media presence to highlight research and analysis from its peers in the prison reform movement.
