Positive News is a British constructive-journalism media organization, publishing online daily, a weekly newsletter and a quarterly print magazine, focused on solutions-oriented reporting. It is structured as a community benefit society, a cooperative-ownership form of social enterprise.
Founded in 1993 in Shropshire, UK, by Shauna Crockett-Burrows as a free quarterly newspaper, originally reaching a circulation of 50,000 volunteer-distributed copies by 1995. Crockett-Burrows died in 2012; Seán Dagan Wood, who had joined as a journalist in 2009 and become editor-in-chief in 2012, led a 2015 crowdfunded share offer that converted Positive News into a reader-owned cooperative, and oversaw a 2016 relaunch. Wood became publisher in 2018 and CEO in 2020. The organization crowdfunded to distribute copies to NHS workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and shifted to a fully remote working model.
Reached an annual audience of roughly 3 million people as of its 30th anniversary in 2023. Received a Solutions Journalism Accelerator grant in 2023 for a series on mental health in the developing world.
