Porto@Iris is the official institutional repository of the Politecnico di Torino, one of Italy's oldest and most respected technical universities. The repository collects publications and research outputs in electronic format produced by the university's academic community as part of its scientific activity. It is built on the IRIS (Institutional Research Information System) platform, which is widely used across Italian universities to manage and disseminate research information.
The Politecnico di Torino adopted its open access policy effective 1 October 2014, requiring faculty, researchers, and collaborators to deposit the products of their scientific research in the institutional open-access archive. The university is a signatory of the Messina Declaration (2004), which promotes open access to academic literature. Porto@Iris replaces the earlier Porto (Politecnico di Torino Repository) system, which was previously the university's institutional repository. Porto@Iris enables compliance with MIUR career and evaluation requirements such as VQR and ASN, as well as European open access mandates under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
Porto@Iris houses journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, doctoral theses, and other scholarly outputs produced by the Politecnico di Torino community. Each deposited item is assigned a persistent identifier (handle) for long-term access. Publications under the Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 programs are automatically synchronized with OpenAIRE, the European Commission's open access repository. The platform interfaces with external bibliometric databases including Web of Science and Scopus.
The repository is publicly accessible at iris.polito.it. Authors can choose to deposit publications as fully open access, under embargo, or as restricted access, depending on publisher policies. The system also integrates with ORCID, Italy's LOGINMIUR database, and institutional HR systems for automated data exchange.
