The Philanthropy Roundtable is a nonprofit membership association of individual donors, foundation trustees and staff, and corporate giving officers, headquartered in Washington, D.C. It is registered as a 501(c)(3) organization.
The Philanthropy Roundtable was founded in 1987 as a project of the Institute for Educational Affairs, established as an alternative to the Council on Foundations. It became an independent entity with its own board of directors and staff in 1991. In 1999, the Roundtable spun off DonorsTrust and, subsequently, Donors Capital Fund, donor-advised fund organizations. In 2005, the Roundtable created the Alliance for Charitable Reform, a public policy arm.
The Philanthropy Roundtable is a nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors; it has no shareholders or parent company. It is funded through membership fees and donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
