Palo Alto Weekly is a community newspaper serving Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Portola Valley, Stanford, East Palo Alto and Los Altos Hills, California. It is the founding publication of the nonprofit Embarcadero Media Foundation.
Established in 1979 by Bill Johnson as an alternative to the daily Peninsula Times Tribune, which ceased publishing in 1993. The Weekly briefly published twice a week following the Times Tribune's closure before reverting to a single Friday edition in September 2009. In January 1994, it became one of the first newspapers to publish its full content online, as Palo Alto Online. Embarcadero Media transitioned to nonprofit status as the Embarcadero Media Foundation on Jan. 1, 2024.
Embarcadero Media Foundation's three newspapers and affiliated sites won 57 California Journalism Awards in 2024.
