Neil Oliver, born February 21, 1967, is a Scottish television presenter and author. He earned an MA (Hons) in archaeology from the University of Glasgow and worked as a freelance archaeologist before training as a journalist at publications including The Scotsman, The Herald, The Guardian, the Edinburgh Evening News, and the Daily Record. He first appeared on television in the 2002 BBC Two series Two Men in a Trench, and went on to present BBC series including Coast, A History of Scotland, and Vikings, alongside authoring popular history and historical fiction books. He served as president of the National Trust for Scotland from 2017 to 2020. Since April 2021, Oliver has hosted a weekly current affairs and interview programme on GB News; his commentary on the channel, including statements questioning COVID-19 vaccination and pandemic measures and disputing mainstream reporting on climate change, has drawn criticism from scientific and press organizations, which he has disputed. He wrote a weekly column for The Sunday Times from 2016 to 2022. He holds honorary degrees from the University of Abertay Dundee (2011) and the University of Glasgow (2015), and lives in Stirling, Scotland.
