Columbus, Ohio, USA
Ohio State does not have a standalone journalism school. Journalism is one of four undergraduate degree tracks — alongside Communication, Communication Technology, and Health, Environment, Risk and Science Communication — within the School of Communication. Journalism majors also complete an approved minor, such as political science or business, to build domain-specific expertise.
Journalism students work on The Lantern, Ohio State's independent student newspaper, and complete a required news-related internship. The Society of Professional Journalists' student chapter at Ohio State has existed for more than 100 years. Graduate programs in the School of Communication are consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally.
The Lantern has served as Ohio State's student newspaper since the late 1800s.
R. Kelly Garrett: Chair/Director of the School of Communication.
The Lantern, named Ohio's Best College Newspaper, has operated since the 1800s and is directly integrated into the journalism curriculum, distinguishing it from programs where the student paper is a separate nonprofit or private entity.
