Northeastern University is a private research university in Boston, Massachusetts.
Journalism at Northeastern is housed in the School of Journalism, part of the College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD). A journalism major began in the English department in 1959, the program became a department in 1965, and it was reorganized as the School of Journalism in 1986. The school is based in Lake Hall and offers a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, combined majors such as Journalism and Political Science, and graduate degrees including a Master of Arts in Journalism, integrated with the university's cooperative education program.
Northeastern was founded in 1898 when the Boston Young Men's Christian Association began offering law classes as part of its Evening Institute for Younger Men. The program was incorporated as Northeastern College in 1916 and gained university status in 1922, becoming fully independent of the YMCA in 1948.
